Mary Seacole and Clement Atlee are joint-favourites to appear on the new £50 note, according to our latest odds.

Seacole became a heroine of the Crimean War after providing medical care to wounded soldiers. Atlee served as prime minister in the aftermath of World War II and introduced the NHS. Both of them are 10/1 shots to feature on the new note.

Stephen Hawking and Margaret Thatcher are second in the betting at 16/1.

There may be an online petition supporting him, but Leicester City star Harry Maguire is all the way back at 500/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Plenty of great Britons are among the frontrunners to be the face of the new £50 note but as things stand the betting suggests it’s a two-horse race between Mary Seacole and Clement Atlee.”
