Man United v Valencia tips: Tight game likely between out-of-form pair

Published:
Paul Pogba - Man United

Hosts Manchester United and visitors Valencia are both in need of a pick-me-up in tonight’s Champions League clash, with neither club in much form at present.

Previous clashes between the teams have been low-scoring, close affairs. And with confidence likely to be low in both camps, more of the same seems likely.

Match Odds

We’ll be honest. This might not be a thriller for the neutral.

Three of the four previous head-to-heads have ended level. The most high-scoring game between the pair? A 1-1 draw.

Man United are priced up as 7/10 favourites for a first win in three at Old Trafford. A Valencia victory is 4/1, while another case of honours-even is a 27/10 shot.

With the last five games involving Los Che all producing two goals or fewer, it’s Evens for Under 2.5 Goals once again. Meanwhile, a 1-1 draw is priced up at 13/2.

Talking Tactics

Having stuck Scott McTominay in a defensive three at West Ham United on Saturday, it’s hard to guess what Jose Mourinho is going to do next.

United’s better results this season have come with a defensive four, so Mourinho may revert to that. Romelu Lukaku is likely to start up top, with a wide pairing of Juan Mata and Anthony Martial behind him.

Valencia don’t tend to budge from a 4-4-2. Kevin Gameiro and Chelsea loanee Michy Batshuayi should start up front. And for a fuller guide on their star men, you can click here.

Goalscorer Odds

Lukaku had been in fine form at the beginning of the campaign, but has now gone four games without a goal. The bruising Belgian is Evens to end his drought here.

Marcus Rashford was the Red Devils’ sole bright spot in last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at London Stadium, netting an audacious effort.

He’s 9/5 Anytime, while we’ve got a Price Boost on Rashford to Score and United to Win – Now 11/4 (Was 12/5).

Batshuayi is 13/5 to land one in the onion bag. United’s recent second-half struggles could also point to Valencia scoring the goal’s final game. And the 25-year-old is 8/1 to be Last Goalscorer.
