Thursday’s US Open tips: Keys and Williams back in action
The US Open is now firmly at the business end as women’s semi-final day descends on New York.
The city’s humidity has been a constant theme for much of the tournament but it’ll really be hotting up on Arthur Ashe with a place in the final up for grabs.
We’ve got your tips and preview ahead of a big day of action…
Serena Williams v Anastasija Sevastova
The semi-final opener pits Serena Williams against Sevastova in the first meeting between the pair.
On paper this could and perhaps should have been an all-American semi-final, but Sevastova upset defending US Open champ Sloane Stephens in the last eight.
Williams is 1/5 to win the match, but the Latvian will be no push over on the hard courts. If she can fight back her emotions she could cause the former number one some serious problems.
Sevastova displayed her diverse range of shots against Stephens in her straight-sets win.
The first set to go to a tie break is 6/1. If she can frustrate Williams then Sevastova could be in with a chance.
Madison Keys v Naomi Osaka
History is within reach for Naomi Osaka. The 20-year-old is bidding to become the first Japanese woman to reach a major final in the Open Era.
However, as much as she has impressed everyone in New York in the past fortnight, she comes up against a confident customer in Madison Keys.
The American is 6/4 to win in straight sets. However, Osaka is a feisty competitor and is 11/10 to grab the first set.
Keys has reached the last-four or better in three of the last five majors, cementing herself as one of the most dangerous players on the tour.
She is 3/1 to win the tournament but she must beat the young pretender first.
