Singapore GP tips: Vettel can’t afford to be beaten by Hamilton

After a rip-roaring event in Italy two weeks ago, Formula One leaves Europe for the final seven races of the 2018 season – starting this weekend in Singapore.
Lewis Hamilton leads Sebastian Vettel in the championship standings by a comfortable 30 points and is 4/9 favourite to win this season’s title.
The Englishman has won three of the last four races, despite Ferrari having the quicker car in at least three of those races.
After errors in Germany and last time out in Italy, Vettel is up against it now. He’s the 13/8 outsider for the championship having been favourite for much of the campaign.
He now returns to the scene of his title-destroying crash 12 months ago when he wiped out himself, Kimi Raikkonen, Max Verstappen and eventually Fernando Alonso on the first lap, allowing Hamilton to win.
Singapore GP race winner odds
The German is 11/8 favourite to prevail around the Singapore streets this Sunday. A win would kick-start his title challenge while erasing last season’s painful memories.
Ferrari’s number one cannot afford to crash out again this weekend. Any result which sees him finish behind Hamilton on Sunday will be a major blow to his title hopes with time running out.
Lewis is second in the betting at 10/3, but Mercedes were off the pace in this race 12 months ago. Rain and that lap-one shunt to take out both Ferraris gifted Hamilton victory.
Mercedes also struggled in Monaco earlier this year, a circuit where Red Bull thrived.
This Sunday’s street race offers the team their best chance of victory from this season’s remaining races, and Verstappen sits alongside Hamilton at 10/3.
Q3 and points finish odds
The Singapore Grand Prix represents the third of the calendar’s slow and twisty circuits, after Monaco and Hungary.
And in both of those events, Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly qualified in the top-10 en route to a points finish.
The 22-year-old Frenchman has impressed massively this term, and will be joining the senior Red Bull squad alongside Verstappen for 2019. He’s 8/15 for another Q3 appearance and the same price for a fifth points finish of the campaign.
