ITV Racing Tips: Can Frankie ride Lah Ti Dar to St Leger glory?

Published:

A busy Saturday of racing culminates with the St Leger. That looks likely to be a two-horse contest, but – crucially – one has form on its side.

Ahead of that, there’s plenty more action from both Doncaster and Chester. Here are our tips on the day’s races…

NAP – Lah Ti Dar – 3:35 Doncaster

The St Leger returns to Doncaster on Saturday, and it’s Lah Ti Dar and Kew Gardens who look the most likely contenders. But we fancy the former to edge it.

Trainer John Gosden decided to declare Lah Ti Dar for this one following the advice of regular jockey Frankie Dettori. And that’s bad news for the competition.

Gosden’s filly has won all of her previous three races, each time with Frankie in the saddle. With strongest rival Kew Gardens finishing a disappointing third in his last outing, a fourth win on the trot is on for Lah Ti Dar.

Lively Longshot – Udontdodou – 1:50 Doncaster

Richard Guest’s charge won at Windsor on his last outing, to secure a fourth victory in the last 10 races. And Richard Kingscote will fancy his chances in the saddle on Saturday.

The Somerset-born jockey has placed in three of his last seven rides, and pilots the five-year-old bay gelding on Saturday in what looks like a pretty open field.

With current market leader Holmeswood having placed just once in his last eight races, there’s no reason Udontdodou can’t outrun Michael Dods’ charge over the distance.

NB – Night of Glory – 2:05 Chester

Andrew Balding’s horse has enjoyed mixed fortunes this season but did manage to post two very respectable outings at this very course in recent months.

Jockey Marvin Dwyer has had a decent September thus far, which has included riding 5/1 shot Cent Flying to glory at Ffos Las.

This is likely to be a tight race, but with soft ground underfoot, Night of Glory could edge things against a mostly older field.

ITV Racing tips:

1:50 Doncaster – Udontdodou (Lively Longshot)

2:05 Chester – Night of Glory (NB)

2:25 Doncaster – Mustashry

2:40 Chester – Mountain Bell (e/w)

3:00 Doncaster – Too Darn Hot

3:35 Doncaster – Lah Ti Dar (NAP)
