Champions League of Darts Tips: Can Suljovic upset van Gerwen again?

Eight of the hottest names in Darts head to the seaside this weekend for the Champions League at the Brighton Centre.

Can Michael van Gerwen make amends for last year and walk away with the £100,000 top prize?

We’ve previewed the two-day event, which is live across BBC1 and BBC2 on Saturday and Sunday.

Winners’ odds

Tournament favourite van Gerwen has won just four of his last 12 TV tournament appearances.

He crashed out in the group stage here last year and is 5/6 to make reparations by going all the way.

Closest rival Gary Anderson has failed to impress in the two most recent Players’ Championship events but has won the World Matchplay and UK Open this term. He’s 4/1.

World Champion Rob Cross is back on form in front of the cameras after taking time to adjust following his Alexandra Palace win.

Voltage is 6/1 to follow up his Brisbane Masters win last month with success on the South Coast.

The out-of-sorts Peter Wright is 7/1, with last year’s winner and Matchplay runner-up Mensur Suljovic at 12/1.

Daryl Gurney and Dave Chisnall are further back at 33/1 apiece. Simon Whitlock is a 66/1 outsider.

Group A odds

There’s little doubt about who our traders like to qualify from Group A.

First and fourth seeds van Gerwen and Anderson are priced at 1/10 and 2/7 respectively.

Northern Irishman Gurney could have a chance at 10/3, though.

The Ulsterman has never beaten MVG over the longer format but is unbeaten in his three matches against Anderson which have been first to 10 legs or above.

St. Helens thrower Chisnall is available at the same price.

Group B odds

This is a more open affair. Cross is the 4/9 favourite to qualify and 6/4 to win the group.

Wright is next best at 8/15, although after losing his last two longer format matches against Cross and Suljovic, it could pay to look elsewhere.

Suljovic topped Group B last year. The Gentle is in even better form than 12 months ago this time around.

You can get him at 5/6 to qualify or 11/4 to top the group.

Australian star Whitlock is 3/1 to win through from a competitive quartet of players.
