Best European Summer signings XI

So we may have seen the World record for a keeper broken twice in the Premier League this summer, but across there have been some equally momentous signings.

You can have your Cristiano Ronaldo’s to Juventus or Gonzalo Higuain to AC Milan that dominated the headlines.

But we’ve decided to put out an XI of the best signings, looking at great value or those that may have flown under the radar during the transfer window.

It may not be an entirely functional starting line-up but definitely one full of hot prospects and those that could hit the ground running.

Thibaut Courtois – Real Madrid – £35m

Real Madrid eventually wore Chelsea down and landed a world class stopper for a snip at £35 million.

Thilo Kehrer – PSG – £33m

One that may have gone unnoticed. The 21-year-old grew in stature at Schalke last season and new PSG boss Thomas Tuchel will put a lot of trust in him.

Sime Vrsaljko – Inter Milan – loan

One that may have shocked some. Vrsaljko has joined the Croatian takeover at Inter and will be key to any sort of title bid.

Mattia Caldara – AC Milan – (part exchange)

Very highly rated in Serie A. With Leonardo Bonucci returning to Juventus, AC Milan couldn’t believe their luck when they snared the young centre-back from their rivals.

Thomas Lemar – Atletico Madrid – £52m

A player that was on the brink of a move last season. Lemar stayed at Monaco but his reputation hasn’t diminished. A move to the Premier League looked likely, but honours could come his way at Atletico.

Leon Goretzka – Bayern Munich – (free)

A player that has grown in prominence of the last few years. He was integral in Schalke’s second placed finish last season and now a man who will be pivotal to Bayern for years to come.

Aleksandr Golovin – Monaco – £27m

Russia’s brightest star showed his worth at the World Cup this summer. The price is a steal for Monaco who are looking to rebuild with a young and hungry core of players.

Giovani Lo Celso – Real Betis – (loan)

Made his frustrations at lack of game time vocal at PSG, he has now moved on to Betis and joins a new look side primed for an exciting season.

Mark Uth – Schalke – (free)

Arguably Hoffenheim’s best player as they fought to third place. Uth notched 14 Bundesliga goals and agreed to sign for Schalke on a free transfer. He will have fresh competition but is in the best form of his career in Germany.

Quincy Promes – Sevilla – £18m

Promes was comfortably the Russian League’s best player during his time at Spartak Moscow. He was linked with clubs all across Europe last season but Sevilla snapped the forward up, La Liga will be better for it.

Goncalo Guedes – Valencia – £36m

We all saw Guedes’ promise during his loan spell at Los Che last year. The new Valencia have been reinvigorated by new manager Marcelino and the permanent signing of Portuguese may could be an inspired one.
