After a fantastic start to the season, Arbroath have done the double of Ladbrokes League 1 awards. Ryan Wallace has picked up the Player of the Month Award for August, with boss Dick Campbell bagging the managerial prize.

Wallace has enjoyed a hugely successful spell since joining the Red Lichties at the beginning of the year. But he’s still hoping for more success, telling us:

“I’m absolutely 100 per cent fit and loving it at Arbroath. We’ve made a great start to the season, even if we are maybe a little disappointed with draws against Dumbarton and then Brechin last week.”

He added: “We’re up there, unbeaten and feeling good that we can definitely be challengers in what is a very open division this season.”

“We just fell short last season which was really disappointing but we feel we have the capability of winning promotion this season.

The 28-year-old also has his eye on ticking off another personal aim, explaining: “On a personal level if was obviously great to reach 100 career goals, which I actually did in July. But I have kicked on with a few more in August so I’m delighted.”

“Now I’m aiming for 150. I’ve not got too many left to reach that total, so that would be great.”

We also caught up with Arbroath’s experienced gaffer Dick Campbell, who helped the Angus club complete a clean sweep of August’s awards.

The 64-year-old said: “I’ve got a great team this season. We’re a bit disappointed that we didn’t hold on for the win against Brechin last Saturday but overall we have been very good.”

He added: “It’s always a pleasure to win one of these awards – and I’m fortunate enough to have had a few of them – but we need to keep working hard to achieve our aims.”

As it stands, Arbroath are top of the League 1 table. We make them 5/2 second-favourites to lift the third-tier title this season.

But this weekend, their focus is on the Challenge Cup. The Red Lichties host League 2 Annan Athletic, with 4/9 for an Arbroath victory.
