Wednesday’s Transfer Rumour Round-Up: Modric to Inter gathers pace

Published:

There’s just over a week to go until the summer transfer window slams shut for Premier League and Championship clubs.

Plenty of managers have dipped their toes into the market already. But who’s making waves on the yellow ticker today? We’ve got rounded up all the major stories.

Modric to Inter?

Real Madrid have already lost Cristiano Ronaldo to Serie A this summer. And now things could be about to get even worse for Los Blancos fans.

That’s because midfield star Luka Modric has reportedly entered talks with Inter Milan.

The 33-year-old is rumoured to be open to a move to Italy and would join countrymen Sime Vrsaljko, Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic at the San Siro should a deal go through.

Digne becomes a Toffee

Richarlison will likely go down as Everton’s biggest piece of business this summer. But the signing of Lucas Digne from Barcelona could be their smartest.

The 25-year-old looks to be a ready made replacement for Leighton Baines at left-back. He has a tonne of pedigree, too, after spells with Paris Saint-Germain, AS Roma and Barca.

His acquisition represents a nice bit of business from Marco Silva, who continues to mould the Toffees into a prospective top-six outfit.

Martial murmurs get louder

Anthony Martial’s strained relationship with Jose Mourinho hit new lows this week after the rapid winger was castigated by his manager for attending the birth of his new son.

It’s difficult to see a way back for the Frenchman, who was also fined £180,000 for missing training.

The 22-year-old is 5/2 to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer and 4/1 to swap Old Trafford for Turin with a move to Juventus.

Ex-QPR man seeking new beginnings

Mario Balotelli, Joe Cole and Joey Barton have all gone to France in an attempt to reinvigorate their respective careers. You can now add Adel Taraabt to that list.

The former Queens Park Rangers star spent last season on-loan at Genoa but looks set to swap Serie A for Ligue 1 with a move to FC Nantes by the end of the week.

Butland to remain a Potter

Not many clubs manage to keep hold of all of their prize assets following relegation from the Premier League.

Yet despite speculation linking Jack Butland to Chelsea, the Potters could well be about to keep their man.

Manager Gary Rowett has intimated that he expects the England goalkeeper to stay in what would represent a significant coup ahead of the new Championship season.
