It may only be the first week at Flushing Meadows but we’ve already seen one big name casualty.

World number one Simona Halep fell in straight sets to unseeded Kaia Kanepi. The top women’s seed had never been eliminated at the first round of the US Open before.

However, as the competition moves on and both the men’s and women’s sides of the draw begin to open up we take a look at what to watch out for on Day two.

In the men’s draw, Roger Federer goes in search of a first US Open crown since 2008. The Swiss faces Yoshihito Nishioka.

This will be the first time the pair meet with Federer is 1/50 to win the match. A straight sets win for the 37-year-old is at 2/9.

Nishioka is 14/1 to take the victory.

Over on the Louis Armstrong court, the scene of Halep’s misery, Nick Kyrgios plays Radu Albot.

Kyrgios has always been a big character in the game and has been vocal about the prospect of facing Federer if he does progress.

The enigmatic Australian is 1/8 to grab the win. This is the first time the pair face each other though, Albot who made the last 32 in his US Open warm up at Winston-Samlem is 5/1 to cause an upset.

Over in the women’s draw Johanna Konta will play Caroline Garcia in the opening round.

Konta leads three-two in matches won, which includes two wins to one on the hard courts.

The Briton hasn’t gone past the second round of any of the Grand Slams in 2018 and will want a strong showing to end the year on a high.

She’s 10/11 for the win, as is her opponent Garcia.

Wimbledon champ Angelique Kerber also plays today. The German had been to a quarter and semi-final before her win in London earlier this year.

She also has good memories of Flushing Meadows after winning in 2016. She is 7/1 to win the competition outright.

Kerber has to beat Margarita Gasparyan first though. The Russian has worked her way back into form and is 7/1 to win the tie.

The German knows how to get to the latter stages of the biggest tournaments and is 1/12 for victory.
