The much anticipated renewal of the Ladbrokes Celebration Mile has attracted eight runners in the Group 2 listed race, which takes place at Goodwood this Saturday, 25th August, live on ITV.

Former Qatar Goodwood Festival winner, BEAT THE BANK, leads the field at 11/8 with Ladbrokes and carries top weight of 9st 7lb. Trained by Kingsclere-based Andrew Balding, BEAT THE BANK is ridden by last year’s winning jockey Oisin Murphy.

In a bid to retain the title for the third time – having won the Ladbrokes Celebration Mile consecutively in 2016 and 2017 on Lightning Spear, the amenable Irish man said: “The Ladbrokes Celebration Mile is a great race that tests both stamina and speed.

“I’ve been lucky twice and will be out to win it for the third time, but not my final time!”

Also returning to the one mile competitive contest is 11/2 second favourite ZONDERLAND and OH THIS IS US priced at 12/1.

Adam Kirkby is reunited with ZONDERLAND who was pipped at the post in last’s year race and finished third last time out over the same distance at Salisbury Racecourse.

Five-year-old OH THIS IS US has enjoyed a solid season with numerous placing under his belt ahead of Saturday’s feature contest and will be looking to land the £70,000 jackpot.

Another horse to take note is the David Simcock trained AROD – also 12/1 in the Ladbrokes betting market – who is the oldest horse in the field at seven-years-young, but is sure to have been strategically placed by the Newmarket master.

Nicola McGeady, head of PR for Ladbrokes, said: “Beat The Bank looks a very solid favourite for our feature race. Support has already been strong, with few punters willing to oppose him.”

Ladbrokes is proud sponsors of Goodwood’s three-day August Bank Holiday meeting and the betting markets for the entire card be found here.
