Thursday’s transfer rumour round-up: Serie A leads a transfer throwback

Published:

Another day, another dollar. The summer transfer window has only a week left to run in the Premier League.

But today sees some of Europe’s elite clubs make their moves as the rumours and transfer talk continues to swirl.

We’ve got a round-up of the comings and goings…

Return of the swap-deal

We haven’t seen a deal of this size struck for some time. Juventus and AC Milan have put rivalry aside to construct a transfer that sees Leonardo Bonucci return to Turin only a year after his departure.

There are many moving parts to this deal with Gonzalo Higuaín and Mattia Caldara heading in the opposite direction.

This is Higuain’s third successive move between domestic rivals in Serie A. Bringing back memories of Christian Vieri’s very own tour of Italy in the nineties.

Kante’s rendezvous in Paris?

Chelsea are just starting to get back on track following a summer of discontent and restlessness from fans.

They’ve just signed midfielder Jorginho and hope to continue their raid of Serie A. But reports suggest they could be about to lose one of their star turns.

Paris Saint-Germain are keen on signing N’golo Kante with the ageing Thiago Motta stepping aside and youngster Giovani Lo Celso not quite ready.

Vidal tug-of-war

Reports emerged that Inter Milan were going to replace the seemingly outgoing Matias Vecino with the tough-tackling Arturo Vidal.

But now Barcelona could be ready to hijack the deal. Malcom-esque.

The Spanish champions sold Paulinho back to China and may want an experienced midfielder to help new-recruit Arthur.

Vidal may favour a return to Italy but the lure of Barca will always be charming.

Burnley want a Rodriguez reunion

Burnley will find out whether their European adventure continues when they face Aberdeen tonight.

But they want to ensure they’re not left high and dry if they do go deep in the competition.

Former fans favourite Jay Rodriguez is top of their shopping list and have had a whopping £16m bid rejected by West Bromwich Albion.

Rodriguez notched 31 goals in 105 appearances for the Clarets and could provide the threat alongside Sam Vokes or Chris Wood.
