The Carabao Cup second round action continues tonight with an intriguing clash between Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United at the City Ground.

These sides met at the same stage of the competition last year, with the Tricky Trees triumphing 3-2 at St James’ Park. Who will come out on top this time around?

We’ve previewed the clash below.

Match odds

Newcastle may be winless so far this season but they’re the 5/4 favourites to get off the mark in the Midlands.

Forest are unbeaten so far this season and should make things tough for the visitors.

They’re 21/10 to win through inside 90 minutes, with a first draw in 10 meetings between the sides priced at 23/10.

Talking Tactics

Both clubs have the league as their priority. So expect a raft of changes this evening.

The Magpies’ Japanese import Yoshinori Muto has looked lively off the bench in the Premier League and could get his first start beside the Trent.

He should head a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Christian Atsu and Kenedy providing support on the wings behind Ayoze Perez. Sean Longstaff and Jamie Sterry could also start.

A youthful Forest attacking line-up could include Matty Cash and Diogo Goncalves in behind, with Daryl Murphy spearheading a 4-2-3-1 formation up top.

The Midlands side will likely try and dominate possession against the Toon, who only had 19% of the ball against Chelsea on Sunday.

Goalscorer odds

Muto is 23/10 to open his account against a Forest side which has failed to keep a clean sheet in its last nine League Cup ties.

Midfielder Mo Diame has three goals in his last three games in this competition. He’s 9/2 Anytime and 14/1 to Score First.

Ex-Magpie Murphy is 21/20 to score against his former club. Cash has two goals in his last three matches and is 7/2 to make it three in four here.

It’s 7/10 for Both Teams to Score.
