Odds and preview of the Primera Division

It’s matchweek three in La Liga this weekend as Real Madrid and Barcelona set the early pace in the opening weeks of the campaign.

Atletico Madrid are already two points off the leaders and will need maximum points at Celta Vigo on Saturday evening.

We preview that game and pick out some of the best tips from the other major fixtures.

Celta Vigo v Atletico Madrid (Saturday, 5:30pm)

Atleti are 3/4 favourites to nail Celta on home turf. And it’s difficult to argue with the odds when you consider the improvements the Madrid outfit have made to their squad over the summer.

However, Celta are no mugs and generally give every side a tough time at the Estadio de Balaidos. But if there’s one side who rarely struggle at the Galicia venue, it’s Atleti.

Simeone’s side have won five of their last seven visits to the Balaidos. And four of them have been to nil. A repeat of that is 17/10.

Antoine Griezmann has a goal and an assist to his name in his opening two games. The World Cup winner is 14/5 to open the scoring here.

Real Madrid v Leganes (Saturday, 7:45pm)

Julen Lopetegui has settled into life at Real Madrid rather quickly if the opening two weekends of the season are anything to go by.

Los Blancos have managed wins against Getafe (2-0) and Girona (4-1) and Leganes are next up. The plucky underdogs are 33/1 to score a big upset at the Santiago Bernabeu.

And while that may be beyond them, a goal isn’t. They found the net in both league games against Real last season. Both Teams To Score is 29/20.

Gareth Bale has scored in his first two starts and is 23/10 to be First Goalscorer here.

Barcelona v Huesca (Sunday, 5:30pm)

Barcelona have also started the campaign in the manner they finished last term. The champions have won their first four games in all competitions, three of them to nil.

The Catalan giants seemingly remain very solid under Ernesto Valverde. And they retain a cutting edge in Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele, and Luis Suarez.

However, newly-promoted Huesca have started the season in unbeaten fashion and scored a goal of the season contender in the draw with Athletic Bilbao.

They’re unlikely to win at Camp Nou with odds of 45/1 about a victory. But can they get on the scoresheet? It’s a 13/10 shot both teams score.

Real Betis v Sevilla (Sunday, 7:45pm)

What a way to finish up the weekend in the Spanish top flight. The Seville Derby was a rip-snorting encounter last season and it should be no different this term.

There was a total of 12 goals over the two fixtures and a similar prospect should be expected here.

Quique Setien’s Betis side were the great entertainers last season. But they’ve not started this campaign too brightly, losing 3-0 at home to Levante and drawing 0-0 at Deportivo Alaves.

Sevilla have won four in a row over the city rivals before those previous two league results. And they could reassert their authority at Estadio Benito Villamarín. Pablo Machin’s side are 7/5 to bag a derby win.
