ITV Racing Tips: Can Take Cover defend Beverley Bullet crown?

Published:

After a cracking Ebor Festival up in York, the action settles down for a while.

However, there’s still plenty of decent racing to cover with the ITV crew parked up at Sandown for the Atalanta and Solario Stakes. Plus, there’s also the Beverley Bullet to look forward to as Take Cover defends his crown.

We’ve got three feature tips and the rest of the seven live races covered, too.

NAP – Veracious – 3.00, Sandown

It’ll be a massive surprise if anyone but Sir Michael Stoute’s Veracious wins the Atalanta Stakes.

The three-year-old drops back down to Group 3 category here after two runs in Group One renewals. And both of them were decent performances.

The daughter of Frankel finished third to Alpha Centauri in the Coronation Stakes and another respectable third in the Nassau Stakes. Ryan Moore is back on board and the pair won the last time he took the saddle at Newmarket.

She really should hose up here if she runs anywhere close to her best.

NB – Take Cover – 2:45, Beverley

David Griffiths’ Take Cover is a personal favourite of ours and won here last year after we’d tipped him up for glory.

And we’re back on board for this renewal, too. However, the 11-year-old veteran will have to overcome a slightly harder draw than last year.

But if he can get to the front quickly, he’ll be very difficult to beat over 5f. He was a decent sixth in the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes at York and previous to that, finished second to Battaash at Goodwood.

As previously mentioned, if he can fire off quickly from stall nine, he’ll take all the beating.

Lively Longshot – Victory Command – 3.35, Sandown

Too Darn Hot is the hot favourite for this renewal of the Solario Stakes. But John Gosden’s charge is worth taking on here in a small field.

And we’re taking our chances with very long odds on Mark Johnston’s Victory Command. This will be the two-year-old’s first step up into Group 3 category.

But he looks a very progressive type and rapid over the 5f sprint. It’s a step up to 7f here, but he could spring a bit of a surprise.

He’s won his last three in a row, including a Class 1 race at Ascot. He could well hit the frame if he goes well here.
