Glorious Goodwood tips: Dee Ex Bee to give Johnston a big win

Published:

After four superb days of racing, Glorious Goodwood draws to a close with a handful of exciting renewals.

Yesterday was a good day for the tipping column with at least three winners steaming in at handy prices. And we’re hoping for more of the same in the finale from the West Sussex Downs.

The Gordon Stakes and the Stewards’ Cup are the feature races of the day. And we guide you through the action with our feature tips and preview…

NAP – Dee Ex Bee – 3:00pm, Goodwood

We kick off the column with a strong pick in Dee Ex Bee in the Gordon Stakes. Mark Johnston is the unofficial king of the Sussex course and has had another strong festival performance.

And his three-year-old charge could another notch to his prolific belt in this 1m 4f renewal. There’s only four in the field and that will aid the son of Farhh.

He’s had a solid-if-unspectacular season with form reading 37223. His last pair of runs were pretty average. But if he runs anywhere near his Epsom Derby performance, he should hose up here.

NB – Spring Loaded – 3:40pm, Goodwood

This year’s renewal of the Stewards’ Cup looks very competitive with a number of contenders in with a big chance.

However, we’re giving the benefit of the doubt – and the nod – to Paul D’Arcy’s charge, Spring Loaded. The six-year-old will have to overcome a penalty. However, he’s been lightly raced this season compared to his main competitors here.

D’Arcy’s grey landed the Ascot Heritage Handicap back in July over 5f and the step up in trip to 6f shouldn’t present any problems. Ryan Moore has also been booked for the ride and that screams confidence in the son of Zebedee.

We’re on-board, too.

Lively Longshot – Boy In The Bar – 1:50pm, Goodwood

Ryan Moore has been booked for another ride that has caught the eye. And that’s where our Lively Longshot selection lands – on Ian Williams’ Boy In The Bar.

The seven-year-old is a course and distance winner here and that automatically makes him an attraction given the large field in this 6f handicap.

He’s racing off a nice mark, too. And when you take into consideration the chunky price, and his ability to put some decent form together, he could be a big player here.
