Glorious Goodwood tips: Battaash to go back-to-back in King George

It was a decent day for punters at Glorious Goodwood yesterday as three of the seven favourites steamed in.
The tipping column suffered, however, as only Marie’s Diamond hitting the frame in the Richmond Stakes saved our bacon.
But we go again on day four with cracking renewals of the Golden Mile and the King George Qatar Stakes to look forward to. Onwards, to our best tips of the seven races…
The odds on Battaash in the King George Qatar Stakes are currently dropping like a stone. Charles Hills’ charge is the reigning champion. And, although the field is quite competitive, he’s clearly the classiest operator in the line=up.
Hills’ star sprinter doesn’t have to contend with closest challengers Lady Aurelia and Blue Point here. Plus, it’s been two years since the four-year-old was beaten outside of Group 1 company.
A 3lbs penalty will be no obstruction to the son of Dark Angel. He’s defeated the majority of the field with 5lbs or more and will take all the beating today.
As mentioned in previous Goodwood tipping columns, experience at such a specialist track is vital.
And that surely makes Sir Michael Stoute’s Mirage Dancer a big player in the Group 3 Glorious Stakes. He was a course and distance winner here back in May in Listed company.
Plus, he was an excellent second in the Group 2 Arqana Racing Club Stakes at Newmarket in early July. The son of Frankel takes a drop in class today and he should have the beating of the field.
In addition, Stoute – and Ryan Moore on board – have won the last two runnings of this race.
Denis Coakley’s charge has been raced fairly lightly this season. He’s only taken on two races since February.
But the seven-year-old did win a decent handicap at Meydan back in February. He was also 6th in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot back in June. He showed a huge turn of speed in the final couple of furlongs to bolt up and finish strongly.
William Haggas’ Seniority is a worthy favourite for numerous reasons here. But if there’s a bolter from the pack, and things go his way, Hors De Combat could hit the frame, at least.
