Can Johanna Konta go all the way in Silicon Valley?

Johanna Konta will wake up today feeling like anything is possible after inflicting the biggest defeat of Serena William’s career.

The British number one beat the tennis icon 6-1, 6-0 in just 53 minutes in the first round of the Silicon Valley Classic.

The 27-year-old won this tournament on her only previous entry in 2016. Now she’s up against Sofia Kenin tonight.

She’s 3/10 favourite to win her first meeting against the American. We go 4/5 that the Eastbourne-based star gets the job done in straight sets too.

Before beating Serena, Konta had endured a tough time since reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon last year. She’s dropped from fourth in the world to 48th. But this could give her the chance to turn things around.

She’s 6/1 to win the tournament, only behind Garbine Muguruza (4/1) and Madison Keys (5/1).

A good run here would be ideal preparation for the US Open at the end of the month. We’ve got the Brit as a 20/1 outsider at Flushing Meadows.
