What do Premier League teams still need to do in the transfer window?

Premier League clubs have already conducted over £1bn worth of transfer business this summer. And with less than two weeks of the transfer window to go, that figure is set to rocket even further.

We’ve rounded up all of the deals so far and looked at what each club could still be looking to get done in the coming days…

Arsenal

Where’d they finish last season: 6th

This season’s aim: A top four spot would be progress. They’re 2/1 to do it.

New faces: Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi

Goodbyes (excluding loans and youth players): Per Mertesacker, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere

What they need: A genuine winger. Alex Iwobi is their only attacking player who can run with the ball at pace.

Who could still go: Joel Campbell looks set to leave permanently. One of Danny Welbeck or Lucas Perez could be off too. Shkodran Mustafi could be vulnerable with so many centre-backs on the books.

Bournemouth

Where’d they finish last season: 12th

This season’s aim: Goal difference cost them a top-ten finish last term. We go 9/4 that they make the step up this time.

New faces: David Brooks, Diego Rico

Goodbyes: Benik Adobe, Max Gradel, Adam Federici, Lewis Grabban

What they need: Steve Cook’s getting on a bit now. A commanding centre-back wouldn’t go amiss. A ball-winner in midfield would be handy too.

Who could still go: Harry Arter has been linked with a move to Fulham recently.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Where’d they finish last season: 15th

This season’s aim: Staying up will be the target again. The Seagulls are 9/4 to go down and 4/11 to stay up.

New faces: Leon Balogun, Joseph Tomlinson, Florin Andone, Jason Steele, Bernardo, Hugo Keto, David Button, Yves Bissouma, Percy Tau, Alireza Jahanbakhsh

Goodbyes: Uwe Huenemeier, Steve Sidwell, Liam Rosenior, Tim Krul, Jamie Murphy, Connor Goldson, Niki Maenpaa, Ales Mateju

What they need: A reliable defender could be useful. They’ve already had three bids turned down for Reading’s Liam Moore this summer.

Who could still go: There’s been talk of Championship interest in Sam Baldock.

Burnley

Where’d they finish last season: 7th

This season’s aim: Replicating last season’s performance will be tough with the demands of European football. It’s 25/1 that Burnley finish as best of the rest again, or 10/3 for a top-half finish.

New faces: None so far

Goodbyes: Dean Marney, Scott Arfield

What they need: They need more depth if they’re going to do well in the Europa League. Some creativity or pace in attack could give them a different dimension too.

Who could still go: Burnley have a small squad as it is, they’ll want to make some additions before letting anyone else leave.

Cardiff City

Where’d they finish last season: 2nd in the Championship

This season’s aim: Cardiff are 8/13 favourites to go down. They’ll do all they can to beat the drop.

New faces: Josh Murphy, Greg Cunningham, Alex Smithies, Bobby Reid

Goodbyes: No one yet

What they need: More quality, particularly up front. Bobby Reid is a good signing but this is his first year in the big time. They need someone that can nick a goal when they’re up against it.

Who could still go: Lee Tomlin, Omar Bogle and Anthony Pilkington could all be on their way.

Chelsea

Where’d they finish last season: 5th

This season’s aim: It’s 4/6 that Maurizio Sarri guides the Blues back into the top four.

New faces: Jorginho, Rob Green

Goodbyes: Jeremie Boga

What they need and who could go: The comings and goings at Chelsea are very much linked this summer. The futures of Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois, Willian, Alvaro Morata, Gary Cahill and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all need to be settled. Then they’ll need to bring replacements in if necessary.

Crystal Palace

Where’d they finish last season: 11th

This season’s aim: A top-ten finish is a real possibility at 11/5.

New faces: Vicente Guaita

Goodbyes: Damien Delaney, Diego Cavalieri, Lee Chung-Yong, Yohan Cabaye

What they need: To become less reliant on Wifried Zaha. A right-back and creative midfielder would also be useful.

Who could still go: Zaha is 1/2 to join Chelsea. Keeping him could be the most important business Palace do this summer.

Everton

Where’d they finish last season: 8th

This season’s aim: Try to force their way into the top six. Our traders give them a 4/1 chance.

New faces: Richarlison

Goodbyes: Wayne Rooney, Joel Robles, Ramiro Funes Mori, Davy Klaasen

What they need: Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka have both seen better days, which makes a centre-back a priority. A long-term replacement for Leighton Baines will be needed sooner rather than later too.

Who could still go: Jordan Pickford has been mooted as a possible replacement for Courtois at Chelsea. RB Leipzig are chasing Ademola Lookman too.

Fulham

Where’d they finish last season: Championship play-off winners

This season’s aim: Survival is the priority, but they’ll set their sights high. It’s 5/1 that the West London club mark their return to the Premier League with a top-half finish.

New faces: Jean Michael Seri, Maxime Le Marchand, Andre Schurrle, Fabri

Goodbyes: Ryan Fredericks, David Button

What they need: A goalscorer, which looks likely to be Aleksandr Mitrovic. The striker impressed while on loan last season. Swansea City’s Alfie Swanson could beef up the defence too.

Who could still go: The first-team looks settled, but youngsters like Cauley Woodrow could be loaned out.

Huddersfield Town

Where’d they finish last season: 16th

This season’s aim: The Terriers are 6/5 to go down. Avoiding that fate for a second-consecutive season would be a real success for a club of their size.  

New faces: Ben Hamer, Terence Kongolo, Ramadan Sobhi, Juninhi Bacuna, Jonas Lossl, Erik Durm, Adama Diakhaby

Goodbyes: Dean Whitehead, Rob Green, Tom Ince

What they need: Huddersfield have focused on what worked for them last season – bringing in lesser-known talents who buy into the team ethic. David Wagenr isn’t likely to go for further additions unless they fit that mould.

Who could still go: Scott Malone, Collin Quaner and Michael Hefele were amongst those left out of the pre-season tour to Austria. They may have to move on if they want to play regularly.

Leicester City

Where’d they finish last season: 9th

This season’s aim: They’ll be pushing for a Europa League place. The Foxes are 5/1 to top the table excluding the big six.

New faces: Ricardo Pereira, Jonny Evans, James Maddison, Danny Ward

Goodbyes: Robert Huth, Ben Hamer, Riyad Mahrez

What they need: Who’s going to replace Riyad Mahrez? It’s asking too much of James Maddison at this stage of his career.

Who could still go: It’s 1/2 that Manchester United bring in Harry Maguire to sort out their defence. Kasper Schmeichel is 6/4 to join Chelsea as a potential Courtois replacement.

Liverpool

Where’d they finish last season: 4th

This season’s aim: The fans are desperate to win the league for the first time since 1990. The Reds are 4/1 second-favourites to do just that.

New faces: Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, Alisson

Goodbyes: Emre Can, Jon Flanagan, Adam Bogdan, Danny Ward

What they need: They’ve addressed many of the weaknesses in Jurgen Klopp’s squad this summer. But Dejan Lovren could still be upgraded upon alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Who could still go: Simon Mignolet and Danny Ings look set to go. Fringe players such as Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi could also depart.

Manchester City

Where’d they finish last season: 1st

This season’s aim: City are 8/11 to defend their title and 5/1 favourites to win the Champions League for the first time.

New faces: Riyad Mahrez

Goodbyes: Yaya Toure, Angus Gunn, Pablo Maffeo

What they need: A defensive midfielder after missing out on Jorginho. Fernandinho is now 33-years-old and there isn’t a natural replacement for him.

Who could still go: Joe Hart and Eliaquim Mangala don’t seem to have much future at the Etihad.

Manchester United

Where’d they finish last season: 2nd

This season’s aim: They’re looking for a first title since 2013, but they’re up against it at 13/2.

New faces: Fred, Diogo Dalot, Lee Grant

Goodbyes: Michael Carrick, Daley Blind, Sam Johnstone

What they need: David de Gea has rescued United far too often in recent years. A commanding centre-back is needed to address their weakness in defence. Jose Mourinho doesn’t seem convinced by some of his attacking options either. A winger or striker could come in too.

Who could still go: Defenders Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian could both leave. Antony Martial reportedly wants a fresh start elsewhere. Tottenham lead the race for him at 5/2.

Newcastle United

Where’d they finish last season: 10th

This season’s aim: Another top-half finish would be impressive, but odds of 11/5 show it’ll be tough without investment.

New faces: Ki Sung-Yeung, Kenedy, Fabian Schar, Martin Dubravka, Yoshinori Muto (subject to work permit)

Goodbyes: Massadio Haidara, Mikel Merino, Chancel Mbemba

What they need: How long have you got? Rafa Benitez has made his frustration with the club’s ownership clear. He wants additions in every area. Whether he’ll get them is another matter entirely.

Who could still go: Mitrovic, Dwight Gayle and Christian Atsu could be sold to raise funds for reinvestment.

Southampton

Where’d they finish last season: 17th

This season’s aim: Saints are 11/8 to finish in the top half after narrowly avoiding relegation last term.

New faces: Angus Gunn, Jannik Verstergaard, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Stuart Armstrong

Goodbyes: Dusan Tadic, Stuart Taylor

What they need: A lack of goals was a huge problem last season. A striker should be on the shopping list. They may need a playmaker after letting Dusan Tadic leave too.

Who could still go: Fulham are pushing for a permanent deal for Matt Targett, who did well on loan during their promotion push. Saints fans will be hoping the club fends off interest from West Ham in Mario Lemina.

Tottenham Hotspur

Where’d they finish last season: 3rd

This season’s aim: Mount a genuine title challenge. However, they’re out at 16/1.

New faces: None so far. Better get a move on.

Goodbyes: No major departures either.

What they need: Reliable alternatives to Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen.

Who could still go: Toby Alderweireld’s future is up in the air, with only a year left on his contract. He’s 8/11 to join Man Utd. Danny Rose is 7/4 to sign United too. And we go 3/1 that Mousa Dembele leaves for Juventus.

Watford

Where’d they finish last season: 14th

This season’s aim: Staying up is the focus, though they’re 15/8 third-favourites to go down.

New faces: Ben Foster, Gerard Deulofeu, Marc Navarro, Adam Masino, Ken Sema, Ben Wilmot

Goodbyes: Costel Pantilimon, Mauro Zarate, Richarlison, Nordin Amrabat

What they need: Where are the goals going to come from? Andre Gray hasn’t really worked out at Vicarage Road yet. It wouldn’t be a surprise if they bring someone in.

Who could still go: Abdoulaye Doucoure has attracted plenty of interest after his impressive displays last season. It’ll take a huge bid to get him at this point though.

West Ham United

Where’d they finish last season: 13th

This season’s aim: After an impressive summer, West Ham are 5/1 to be the highest-placed side outside of the big six.

New faces: Jack Wilshere, Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop, Ryan Fredericks, Andriy Yarmolenko, Felipe Anderson, Fabian Balbuena

Goodbyes: James Collins, Patrice Evra, Reece Burke

What they need: Possibly another centre-back, but West Ham have fully backed Manuel Pellegrini to reshape the squad. It’s a very exciting time for Hammers.

Who could still go: Crystal Palace are looking to bring in Michail Antonio and Cheikhou Kouyate. Pedro Obiang looks set to return to Italy too.

 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Where’d they finish last season: Championship winners

This season’s aim: Make a real splash in the top-flight. They’re 11/10 to finish 10th or higher, or 9/2 to finish as best of the rest.

New faces: Rui Patricio, Willy Boly, Raul Jimenez, Leo Bonatini, Ruben Vinagre, Paulo Alves, Joao Moutinho, Jonny

Goodbyes: Carl Ikeme, Ben Marshall, Barry Douglas

What they need: Links with Andre Silva and Adama Traore suggest they’re in the market for more going forwards. An experienced centre-back would be a boost too.

Who could still go: Phil Ofosu-Ayeh, Dominic Iorfa, Jordan Graham and Michael Zyro are amongst those set to be moved on.
