Tyson Fury odds-on favourite for Deontay Wilder bout

Published:

At one time it had appeared nailed on that Deontay Wilder would be getting in the ring with Anthony Joshua.

Between them, the pair hold all the heavyweight belts in the division. But when talks stalled in July they both went their separate ways.

Joshua will fight Alexander Povetkin in September. But we could be ready to see a huge match-up with Tyson Fury now primed to take on Wilder.

Our traders put the Gypsy King at 8/13 to see off the American. Whereas Wilder is 6/5 to win if it were to happen.

The Gypsy King made his long-awaited return in June against Sefer Seferi.

And if Fury can make it through his bout with Francesco Pianeta in August then the Bronze Bomber could lie in wait before the end of the year.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Fury’s pushing for a blockbuster bout and the latest odds suggest his wish may well be granted in the next few months.”

Negotiations have allegedly taken place and will continue to do so as both teams try to thrash out a deal.

There’s more intrigue around the heavyweight division right now. The victories of both Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora last weekend has injected some much needed excitement.

A Wilder versus Fury contest would end the year with a bang and whet the appetite for Joshua to take centre-stage in 2019.
