Thursday at Wimbledon: Is Serena set for another final appearance?

Published:

We’re at the semi-finals stage of the women’s draw now and all four players will be dreaming of Saturday’s final.

Serena Williams already knows exactly what it takes to win at this stage. But it’s only 10 months since the seven-time Wimbledon champion gave birth.

She’s up against world number 13 Julia Gorges. Williams is the clear 2/7 favourite. Gorges is out at 11/4.

It’s a real surprise the German has made it this far – she’s been knocked out in the first round for five consecutive years.

These two have met three times before, with Williams winning in straight sets each time. It’s 4/5 that this one goes the same way.

The other semi-final should be a tighter affair. 2016 Australian Open and US Open winner Angelique Kerber faces 2017 French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko.

This will be the first time they’ve ever faced each other. Kerber is 8/13 to make it through, with Ostapenko at 5/4.

Kerber is nine years older than her opponent. Her experience could make the difference. Ostapenko’s aggressive play could suit her defensive approach too.

Both players will be desperate for a first Wimbledon title. And this one could go all the way. It’s 11/4 that Kerber wins 1-2 in the Set Betting market.
