Speedway Grand Prix of Great Britain Tips: Woffinden win in Cardiff?
Tai Woffinden will be hoping to extend his lead at the top of the 2018 Speedway World Championship as the season rolls round to Great Britain this weekend.
The British rider currently has an 11-point lead at the top of the classification after racking up two overall race wins from the four events so far.
Can he carry that form onto Cardiff and the Millennium Stadium?
Our traders have priced him up as the 5/2 favourite to be the overall race winner in the Welsh capital. But he’ll need to improve on some poor showings over the Severn Bridge.
Since making his debut at the track in 2011, Woffy has yet to stand on the top step of the podium. He’s twice come home as runner-up but could only manage a sixth-place finish last year.
His form this season has been some of the best of his career, though. And buoyed by a 70,000+ strong home crowd in Cardiff, he should go close.
Bartosz Zmarzlik has shown gradual improvement this season and finished third last time out in Sweden. He’s 7/1 to taste overall victory.
He shares that price with Maciej Janowski, who won in the Welsh capital 12 months ago and tasted success last time out in Hallstavik.
Current world champion Jason Doyle is also available at 7/1. The Australian has yet to take home a medal this season, but did finish runner-up in Cardiff a year ago behind Janowski.
However, it’s Swedish speedster Fredrik Lindgren who could be the one to keep an eye on at 8/1.
The 32-year-old has been a model of consistency this season and is Woffinden’s closest challenger in the championship standings.
His British form does open question marks about his ability to take the race win. But that won’t deter ‘Fast Freddie’ around the man made track.
