Odds suggest Palace and Dortmund could make Schurrle-Zaha swap

Andre Schurrle - Dortmund

They’re rare things indeed, but the odds suggest we could be seeing a swap deal between Crystal Palace and Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Dortmund boss Lucien Favre has been firmly linked with a move for Wilfried Zaha. But with the Eagles unlikely to let their star man go without a replacement, the Ivorian could be part of a swap deal with Andre Schurrle.

The odds make it 7/1 for a Zaha-Schurrle swap between the clubs this summer.

Meanwhile, Zaha to simply join Dortmund is 5/2. And his German counterpart is 7/2 to head to Selhurst Park before the window shuts.

It’s easy to see why each player could be attractive to one another’s clubs.

Zaha was head-and-shoulders above any other Palace player last term. He netted nine times in the Premier League, and has now recorded a combined 21 assists in the last three campaigns.

And Dortmund’s counter-attacking style has needed a real injection of pace since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele both exited last summer.

One thing Zaha doesn’t have is European experience. However, the 25-year-old has performed on the big stage, starting every one of Ivory Coast’s games in last year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

If he joins Roy Hodgson’s side, Schurrle certainly won’t be an unknown quantity.

While things haven’t gone too well for him at Dortmund, the 27-year-old hit eight Prem goals for Chelsea in 2013-14, proving himself a versatile forward presence.

If they could be the club to rejuvenate his form, they’ll have one heck of a player on their hands. After all, Schurrle was a pivotal part of Germany’s World Cup triumph four years ago – netting twice in the semi-final and setting up the winner in the final.

Time will tell whether this deal goes through, but there’s reason to think it could work out for both sides.
