Monday at Wimbledon: Just another manic Monday?
Published:The second week at SW19 is here and many are calling this ‘manic Monday’ with all the men’s and women’s last-16 singles ties on show.
World number-one Simona Halep let another major title chance sleep over the weekend. But there’s still Serena Williams, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal all in action.
American pop-rock band The Bangles may have called the mania back in 1987. But it may turn into a magic Monday on day seven.
First up on Centre-Court is Roger Federer. The world number-one will hope to serve up a victory over Adrian Mannarino.
Fed has come through in straight-sets on the way to the Round of 16. It’s 2/7 for the clean sweep here.Whilst he’s 1/40 to win the match.
However, Mannarino has won the opening set in each of his matches so far. He’s 11/2 to grab the first set.
The Frenchman hasn’t beaten Federer in their five meetings, but is 14/1 to do it today.
Former women’s top seed Angelique Kerber opens the day on number 1 court. She’s 4/11 to take the win. Her opponent Belinda Bencic is 9/4 for victory.
Serena Williams follows on Centre Court. The woman everyone wants to beat on the tour will come up against Evgeniya Rodina.
Rodina beat highly-rated Madison Keys in three sets in the last round. Williams hasn’t dropped a set though and is 3/10 to take it 2-0.
The match betting is 1/12 for Williams to march on. Rodina is 13/2 to cause another upset.
Closing on centre-court is French Open champion Rafael Nadal. He may not have gone past the fourth round since 2011 but are joint-second favourite to win the tournament at 5/1.
The Spaniard must beat Jiri Vesely first though. Vesely has already overcome top twenty seeds Diego Shwartzman and Fabio Fognini in two of the three opening rounds.
Novak Djokovic is last to hit on number 1 court. After making steady strides at the French Open and Queen’s he has found some form at the All-England Club.
The Serb saw off the last British hope in Kyle Edmund and is now 5/1 to win the competition.
He faces Karen Khachanov in round-four. The Russian’s last two games have gone to five-sets. It’s 11/2 to go the distance and Khachanov to win.
However, Nole is 1/8 to advance.
