Leonardo Bonucci is a wanted man by Premier League elite

He may have only signed for AC Milan last season, but it looks like Leonardo Bonucci could be on the move again.

The former Juventus defensive lynchpin has been one of world football’s best centre-backs for years now. And with Milan’s financial issues meaning they must balance the books, Bonucci is still a major asset.

A host of top teams have been linked with the 31-year-old in recent days, including a couple of the Premier League’s big guns. Chelsea and Manchester City have been credited with an interest.

We take a look at which of England’s top clubs might need Bonucci most…

Chelsea

This link might be purely based on Maurizio Sarri’s appointment as new Blues’ boss. But it certainly feels like a goer.

Gary Cahill is reportedly ready to exit Stamford Bridge with David Luiz likely to follow. Plus, Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen have yet to fully convince in West London.

Bonucci would be a good fit at Chelsea and has the ball-playing ability to fit right into a Sarri team.

Man City

Surely the most unlikely of all destinations? Although City aren’t averse to splashing the cash, Bonucci just doesn’t fit the profile for a Pep Guardiola side.

Not to mention City are well-stocked in the centre-back department. John Stones, Vincent Kompany, Aymeric Laporte, and Nicolas Otamendi are all top defenders in their own ways.

Plus, Guardiola tends to avoid the veterans because it’s more difficult to mould them in his own way of playing.

Manchester United

If there’s one of the top-six teams who badly need a world-class centre-half, it’s Man United. The Red Devils have been without one since Rio Ferdinand’s retirement.

And although it’s not cost them domestically, it’s been shown up on the Champions League stage.

Bonucci would be the best defensive signing since Nemanja Vidic from CSKA Moscow a number of years ago. His leadership qualities and defensive solidity would also Jose Mourinho to be a little more offensive.
