ITV Racing Tips: Last tango in July Cup Stakes for Brando

Published:

We’ve got a proper super Saturday of racing to look forward to with as many as ten live races to salivate over.

The ITV crew will be covering up to three courses across the country, with Newmarket, Ascot, and York all hosting some top-class renewals.

The Darley July Cup Stakes from Newmarket takes precedence. But we’re covering all ten races with tips as well as the three featured bets.

NAP – Beat The Bank – 1:20, Ascot

Andrew Balding’s charge was immensely unlucky in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot last month. But redemption could be at hand here in the Summer Mile Stakes at the same course.

The four-year-old was going very well in that latter race but got boxed in badly as the finish approached. He finished sixth that day but was just over a length off the winner.

He goes in this Group 2 today and should justify his favouritism at the head of the betting. It’ll be a rounder mile to the more straight one in the Queen Anne and that will suit him. As will the ground.

NB – Thundering Blue – 3:40, York

While it didn’t go to plan for Thundering Blue at Royal Ascot either, connections are very confident of a big run in the John Smith’s Cup.

The five-year-old was beaten by Dash Of Spice by just over 9L that day. And will have to overcome David Elsworth’s charge to win here.

But David Menuisier’s star won here over course and distance in the previous run. And the drop back in trip should suit the son of Exchange Rate perfectly. Ten furlong seems the ideal distance and if he finds the pace, he could hose up.

Lively Longshot – Brando – 2:15, Newmarket

The Darley July Stakes at Newmarket is the feature race of the day. And what a renewal we could have in store.

Blue Point, US Navy Flag, Eqtidaar, Redkirk Warrior, and Sands Of Mali all take their place in the field. But you can pick holes in each of their selections.

Instead, we’ve got for a bit of a left-field pick in Kevin Ryan’s Brando. He was third here last year and his price still remains quite big. Considering his considering form at this course reads 1131, he could be a very savvy each-way selection.

He’s definitely got a savage turn of pace that could see him in the mix in the final few lengths.
