German GP tips: Can Hamilton stop Vettel landing a home win?

The 2018 Formula One season crosses the halfway stage this Sunday with the German Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton trails title rival Sebastian Vettel by eight points, after the German won his fourth race of the season at Silverstone.
A home win for Vettel?
It’s off to Hockenheim for round 11 of the 21-race season, and home favourite Vettel tops the race-winner betting at 6/4, with Hamilton right behind him at 13/8.
There’s 15/2 about Valtteri Bottas ending his luckless run and bagging his first win of the season, while fellow Finn Kimi Raikkonen is into 8/1 from his usual pre-race prices of 16s and 20s.
The Red Bulls were off the pace last time out, but they should be closer to the front in Germany.
There’s 17/2 about Max Verstappen claiming his second victory of the campaign, while Daniel Ricciardo is 10/1. The Australian is likely to take a grid penalty this weekend.
The unknown suits Ferrari
A lack of fan interest and rising host costs have seen the German Grand Prix come and go in recent years.
The last race was held in 2016, and this season’s cars are vastly changed since then. It means the teams won’t know as much as they usually do about track characteristics and tyre performance.
That combination could see things edge Ferrari’s way. The Italian outfit’s car is kinder on its tyres, and boasts a wider operating window than the temperamental Mercedes.
It’s 6/5 that Vettel is the fastest qualifier on Saturday, while 4/1 says both Ferrari’s are on the front row in qualifying.
