Friday at Wimbledon: Zverev, Federer and the Williams sisters on show

Yesterday saw some big-hitters fall by the wayside.

Last year’s men’s finalist Marin Cilic was eliminated, Jo Konta was put out in straight-sets and Stan Wawrinka showed he needs more time to get back to his best.

However, as the first week comes to a close there are plenty of big names on the card on Day 5.

First up we see whether Alexander Zverev can battle back from 2 sets to 1 down against Taylor Fritz.

After coming through the first set pretty comfortably, Zverev is now 10/11 in the match betting.

It’s Evens for the number four seed to overturn the deficit and come through 2-3. Fritz to hold his nerve and see out the fourth set 3-1 is 7/4.

Sam Querrey lost out to Cilic in the semi-final of the tournament last year. He’s in action against Gael Monfils in an engaging draw.

Querrey is 4/9 to take the victory and charge on into the second week. But Monfils is at 13/8 to win and likes to take a scalp, reaching the semi-finals of the US Open two years ago.

No.3 court opens up with 2018 Australian Open semi-finalist Madison Keys.

The American has come through in straight sets in her first two rounds. She’s 4/9 to do the same here against Evgeniya Rodina. And is at 1/8 to take the match.

Rodina has equalled her best run at Wimbledon in her whole career. But despite coming through in three-sets in her opening two rounds she’s at 5/1 to win today.

The Williams sisters are back out on court this afternoon. Venus plays Kiki Bertens in the third round.

This will be only their second time they faced each other. It was in the Miami Masters of this year where they got a first look at each other. Williams triumphed in three-sets on the hard-court.

She’s 8/15 to win and make the second-week yet again. Bertens is a 6/4 shout for victory.

25^th seed Serena Williams duels Kristina Mladenovic. This will be the second match on centre-court.

They too have only met on one single occasion. Williams winning in straight-sets at the 2016 French Open.

She hasn’t been at her best so far and Mladenovic can be dangerous at the net. Although, Williams is 8/15 to win 2-0. Mladenovic is 10/3 to advance to the fourth-round.

The showpiece today is Roger Federer. The defending champion closes play on centre against Jan-Lennard Struff.

The Federer Express is coming off the back of straight-sets win over Lukas Lacko that took only 27 games to decide.

The number-one seed is 3/10 to close this one out 3-0.

Struff came through a huge game against Ivo Karlovic, eventually winning on a fourth-set tie break.

The German is 14/1 in the match betting and is 11/2 to win the opening set.
