Colombia v England preview: Will Three Lions reach the last eight?

Germany have gone. Spain have sunk. Argentina? Already home. Portugal? They’ve perished. Is this shaping up to be England’s year?

They face Colombia tonight with a place in the World Cup quarter-finals at stake. And if they win, the draw has really opened up for them.

England are 23/20 favourites to win in 90 minutes here. Colombia are 14/5 and the draw is 2/1.

We’ve also got England at 8/15 to reach the last eight, with Colombia at 11/8.

The South American side have been one of the most exciting sides in Russia so far. But they could be without James Rodriguez here. Losing their chief creator would be a huge blow.

That doesn’t mean the Three Lions can start getting complacent though. England have only won one knockout game since 2002, after all.

There should be a quiet confidence though. Gareth Southgate’s side have a clear plan, plenty of youthful pace and energy, and they’re a real threat from set-pieces. They have a genuinely world-class striker in Harry Kane too.

But anything can happen on the big stage. It’s 9/2 that this one goes all the way to a penalty shoot-out. It’s a toss-up from there. England and Colombia are both 10/1 to win on penalties.

Even if Rodriguez isn’t fit, both teams have plenty of attacking quality. We go 6/5 for Both Sides to Score.

Kane is leading the race for the Golden Boot with five strikes so far. He’s 3/1 to open the scoring in Moscow or 6/5 to score Anytime.

Raheem Sterling is 5/2 to get his first international goal since October 2015 tonight.

Colombia will be looking to Radamel Falcao to hit the back of the net. We’ve got the veteran at 11/5 to do just that.

Luis Muriel could be one to watch too. He’s in line to feature if Rodriguez misses out. The Sevilla forward’s 7/2 to get on the scoresheet.
