Tunisia v England tips: Three Lions can begin World Cup with a win

Published:

At 7 pm tonight, England will take on Tunisia to commence their World Cup challenge.

It has been a long four years for the Three Lions, who crashed out of the tournament after just two matches in Brazil.

And much has changed since. Gareth Southgate is in charge, and the former U21 boss leads a vibrant and refreshing squad of youthful talent.

While nobody is going around shouting that England can go all the way, there’s a quiet buzz around one of the youngest and most inexperienced squads in Russia.

Our traders have England at 1/2 to win the Group G clash in Volgograd tonight. They’re unbeaten in 10 games and they’ve faced Germany, Brazil, Italy and the Netherlands in that spell.

Tunisia are 7/1 outsiders with a draw at 14/5.

It’s not the first time the Three Lions have opened against the African nation. It’s a little over 20 years to the day since Alan Shearer and Paul Scholes netted in a 2-0 win against the Tunisians in France.

Harry Kane fills the Shearer void these days, as captain and main striker. The Tottenham Hotspur ace is 11/5 favourite to score first and 14/5 to bag two goals or more.

There’s 4/1 about Dele Alli breaking the deadlock, with Jesse Lingard the same price.

England are 19/4 to win 2-0 once again, while they’re 6/4 to win on the -1 handicap.

But Tunisia are ranked a respectable 21st in the rankings. And England are no strangers to a World Cup mishap.

Our traders have a 1-0 Tunisia victory chalked up at 14/1, with Sunderland winger Wahbi Khazri 10/1 to open the scoring.
