Steven N’Zonzi getting closer to Arsenal switch
Published:Steven N’Zonzi is moving ever closer to a return to the Premier League.
The former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City midfielder is edging nearer a re-union with former boss Unai Emery at Arsenal.
The 29-year-old played under the new Arsenal head coach at Sevilla. He was brought in at the beginning of the 2015-16 season and gradually played his way into Emery’s starting eleven.
He was known as a bit of a tough-tackling bruiser in Tony Pulis’ Stoke City era but has developed a calm and composed side in Andalusia.
Arsenal have been looking for a player with these attributes for some time now.
Former boss Arsene Wenger was reluctant to bring in a brutish defensive-midfielder, preferring to keep faith with the likes of Denilson and Francis Coquelin down the years.
However, under Emery it looks as though there may be a shift in culture.
The North London club have been heavily linked with Marouane Fellaini recently. This goes to show Emery’s influence has already begun.
N’Zonzi is now 2/1 to join the Gunners as is Manchester United’s Fellaini.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It looks as though Unai Emery has identified his midfield as a weak point, and we reckon he could call on in a familiar face in N’Zonzi to tighten things up in the middle.”
There will be a hive of activity around the Emirates this summer and N’Zonzi could be one of the next through the door.
