Optimistic punters flocking to back England at the World Cup

England are the public’s choice to win this summer’s World Cup.

We can reveal that the Three Lions and Germany are running away with it when it comes to the most popular nations in the betting.

Gareth Southgate’s men may be 14/1 to win the tournament but they are by far the best-backed side in the market – and Germany (9/2)  aside – are currently twice as popular as any other country.

Joint-favourites Brazil are next at 9/2, ahead of France (6/1) and dark horses Belgium (10/1).

Tournament hosts Russia are a surprise inclusion at ninth on the list. Stanislav Cherchesov’s side kick the tournament off against Saudi Arabi in Group A and are 40/1 to win the entire thing.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Expectation might be low as far as the odds concerned, but punters clearly think the value is with England this year.”
