Which Arsenal players could be on their way out?

It looks increasingly likely that Mikel Arteta will replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager in the near future.

The former club captain has been Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City for the last two years. Now he’s just 1/4 to fill the Emirates hot seat.

If he gets the job, he’ll have a big to-do list. The squad needs strengthening if the Gunners are going to get back into the top four. And as the Gunners don’t have the budget of City or Manchester United, they may need to sell to raise some funds too.

We’ve taken a look at who could be playing elsewhere next term…

Aaron Ramsey

Despite his injuries, Ramsey ended the season with 11 goals and 12 assists. He’d ideally be one of the players the new manager would build the team around. But he only has a year left on his contract. And reports suggest he’s not in any rush to sign an extension.

After the sagas involving Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, Arsenal won’t want to risk losing him on a free. If they can’t convince the 27-year-old to put pen to paper soon, they may have to sell.

Danny Welbeck

Like Ramsey, Welbeck only has a year left on his contract. He’s a useful squad player but lacks the quality to start every week.

The former Man United man may want to play more regularly too. A move could suit the club and player here.

Shkodran Mustafi

Arsenal were reportedly ready to offload Mustafi last summer, just a year after signing him for £35m. His performances this term may have convinced the club they had the right idea back then.

A number of centre-backs are being heavily linked with a move to the Gunners. Selling Mustafi could fund a move for a new addition.

Petr Cech or David Ospina

One area in real need of improvement is between the posts. Cech is well past his best now and made more errors leading to goals than any other player in the top flight. David Ospina isn’t convincing either.

Neither of them would bring in much of a fee, but it would clear space on the wage bill and pave the way for a new ‘keeper to come in.

Loanees

The likes of Joel Campbell, Lucas Perez and Carl Jenkinson don’t seem to have much of a future in North London. They’ll probably be sold if a buyer can be found.
