Middlesbrough v Aston Villa tips: Boro look good to continue home run

Published:
Middlesbrough - Riverside

Middlesbrough host Aston Villa in the first leg of the pair’s Championship play-off semi-final. And the stats point towards a good result for Tony Pulis’ men.

Boro are superb at The Riverside. The Teessiders have won seven of their last eight games at home. And their scrooge-like backline has shipped just six in nine on their own patch.

The Villans are also good at home, but it’s a different story on the road. Steve Bruce’s side have lost three of their previous five away from home – including defeat to lowly Bolton Wanderers.

It’s 13/10 for Middlesbrough to win the first-leg. Meanwhile, the odds make it 2/1 for a draw and 23/10 for a Villa victory.

With the hosts boasting the joint-second best defensive record at home, it’s 12/5 for Boro to Win to Nil.

The Teessiders have Patrick Bamford in strong form. The man from Grantham has netted 10 times in his last 13 outings. He’s also closed out the scoring six times this season. Bamford is 6/4 to register anytime, while he’s 7/2 to be Last Goalscorer.

If Villa are to get anything, it’s likely to come via Lewis Grabban. Following four goals in as many matches, he’s 21/10 to add to his tally on Teesside.

Boro have outscored the opposition at The Riverside either side of the break, in three of the last seven fixtures. It’s 8/1 for Middlesbrough to Win Both Halves. Meanwhile, Pulis’ men are 9/1 to win 2-0 for the 10th time this season.
