Wayne Rooney looks set to end his Premier League career and leave Everton for DC United in the near future.

Many big-name players have headed to MLS for a final hurrah. But only a few have had a major impact in the States.

The Black-and-Red are currently bottom of the Eastern Conference. Will Rooney help them to climb the table?

There’s no doubt that the 32-year-old is no longer the force he once was. But there were signs of his quality during his return to the Toffees.

He was the club’s top scorer with 11 league goals, including a stunning effort from within his own half against West Ham United.

Rooney hasn’t got the legs to play up front on his own anymore. The former England and Manchester United captain struggled in midfield this season too. But his experience could allow him to shine in that deeper role in MLS.

The game isn’t as fast or intense there as it is in the Premier League. If DC boss Ben Olsen puts players with energy around the veteran, he could prove to be a smart addition.

Signing Rooney could go either way in terms of his contribution on the pitch. But he’ll definitely raise the profile of the club. And his knowhow could help to guide a relatively inexperienced squad.

We may not have to wait too much longer to see how it works out.
