Mikel Arteta has emerged as the new favourite to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager.

The Spaniard is now as short as 13/8 to return to the club he played at from 2011 to 2016 as head-coach.

Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City has shot to the head of the betting after reports emerged last night that previous frontrunner Massimiliano Allegri looks set to stay at Juventus.

Allegri had been at the top of the market for some time but is now available as a 3/1 shot.

Elsewhere, Carlo Ancelotti is the only name shorter than 12/1 to be appointed in North London.

Interest in Liverpool assistant boss Zeljko Buvac has also cooled after an initial wave of interest.

The Bosnian coach is now priced at 16/1 to take the top job at the Emirates.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Day One of life after Wenger is finally upon Gooners, and it’s now Arteta who leads the way in the betting.”
