Who gets in our Liverpool and Man City combined XI?

Anfield hosts one of the biggest games of the season tomorrow as Liverpool take on Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals.

League-leaders City are 13/10 favourites. But Liverpool are the only side to beat Pep Guardiola’s side in league action this season. The Reds are 15/8 to come out on top in the first-leg.

It’s all set up for a cracker. Both sides are packed with attacking talent. But who would get into a combined XI of the two sides? We’ve had a crack at it in the 4-3-3 system both sides use…

GK: Ederson

Ederson gets the nod in goal ahead of Loris Karius. He’s been superb since arriving at City last summer. As well as being a great shot-stopper, his incredible distribution gets attacking moves going.

RB: Kyle Walker

Plenty of eyebrows were raised when City paid £50m for Kyle Walker last summer. It looks like money well spent now. His athleticism makes him a real attacking weapon and he’s looked solid defensively.

CB: Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool also spent big to bring in Virgil van Dijk earlier this year. The early signs are very promising. The Reds’ defence has let them down too often under Jurgen Klopp. Van Dijk’s arrival has already helped to start fixing their issues at the back.

CB: Nicolas Otamendi

Nicolas Otamendi has been a rock at the back this season. The City centre-back has been much better defensively. He’s adapted to Pep’s passing game too. No one in the top flight has played more passes this season.

LB: Andrew Robertson

It took some time for Andrew Robertson to find his feet at Anfield. Now he looks like one of the best value signings this season. He’s more reliable than Alberto Moreno and provides real quality when crossing from the left.

CM: Fernandinho

Fernandinho doesn’t get the plaudits of some of his teammates but he’s been quietly integral to City’s success this season. He shields the defence and keeps the ball moving, allowing players further ahead to shine.

CM: David Silva

City’s resident magician has sprinkled stardust all over their season. There aren’t many players who are better at unlocking packed defences than Silva. Even at 32-years-old, he’s one of the champions-elect’s most important players.

CM: Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne has had the best season of his life. He’s been moved into a slightly deeper role and totally dominated games for City. The brilliant Belgian can score goals and create them. He’s quick, strong and so intelligent on the pitch. The perfect modern midfielder.

RW: Mohamed Salah

If it wasn’t for De Bruyne, Mo Salah would be the clear frontrunner for Player of the Year. He’s been absolutely sensational in his first year at Liverpool. The winger’s bagged 29 league goals already. No one’s ever scored more than 31 goals in a 38-game Premier League season. Salah looks set to change that.

LW: Raheem Sterling

As Salah is a must-pick on the right, there’s plenty of competition on the left. Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane are both strong contenders, but we’ve gone for Raheem Sterling. The former Liverpool man has scored 16 league goals and will be key for England in the summer.

CF: Sergio Aguero

Roberto Firmino’s energy and creativity are essential to Liverpool’s attacking play. Gabriel Jesus is one of the most attacking talents in world football too. However, neither guarantees goals like Sergio Aguero. The Argentine has consistently been one of the most deadly finishers around.
