Masar lays down 2000 Guineas warning with Craven Stakes success

An exciting day of flat racing has produced a dramatic shift in the betting for the 2000 Guineas next month.

Gustav Klimt has been at the head of the market for some time at 5/2. He enhanced those claims with victory in the Leopardstown Trial at the weekend.

But it’s Masar who has stirred the pot following an incredible success in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket.

Charlie Appleby’s star went off as second-favourite behind Roaring Lion over 7f but blazed home in the April heat to win by over 9l from White Mocha.

After starting the day as a general 20/1 shot for the 2000 Guineas, the three-year-old has been hacked in to just 6/1 by our traders.

That puts him fourth in the market behind the aforementioned Gustav Klimt and Aidan O’Brien’s Saxon Warrior (5/1). Elarqam comes next at 13/2.

Expert Eye, who runs at Newbury on Saturday, is available at 10/1.

Roaring Lion has been lengthened to 12/1 from 5/1 after being turned over as an 8/13F in the Craven Stakes.
