Ryan Day 14/1 from 50/1 for Players Championship after Selby win

Ryan Day is the biggest market mover of the Ladbrokes Players Championship, according to our traders.

The Welshman started the tournament as a huge 50/1 outsider. But those odds have been cut to just 14/1 after the 37-year-old dispatched back-to-back world champion Mark Selby 6-3 in Llandudno.

‘Dynamite’ racked up two century breaks over Selby and is now aiming to become the first player since John Higgins in 2001 to win three tournaments in a row. Day has recently triumphed in both Gibraltar and Romania.

As usual, the biggest obstacle to overcome will be the brilliance of Ronnie O’Sullivan.

The Rocket won the Ladbrokes World Grand Prix last month and is in excellent form at the moment.

He progressed to the last eight with a comfortable 6-1 victory over Graeme Dott and is the 15/8 favourite to chalk up another success in North Wales.

Higgins (5/1), Mark Williams (13/2) and Judd Trump (17/2) make up the rest of the top-four in the betting. Anthony McGill, who faces Higgins in the last-16, is the outsider of the field at 66/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “He’s the talk of the table right now having won back-to-back tournaments heading into the Players Championship, and victory over Selby today has given Ryan Day every chance of going all the way this week.”
