Native River has been installed as the 6/1 joint-favourite for the 2019 Gold Cup after his battling success over Might Bite in the 2018 renewal.

Colin Tizzard’s star edged out the favourite on the uphill climb to land the £369,821.92 first prize by just over 4l. The eight-year-old has now won the Gold Cup, Denman Chase, Welsh Grand National and the Ladbrokes Trophy in the last 18 months.

His success at Cheltenham in the Festival’s blue riband event has seen him go to the join-top of the betting for the 2019 running, a position he shares with Presenting Percy.

Patrick Kelly’s raider landed the RSA Chase in comprehensive fashion by 11l from Monalee and is now considered a genuine Gold Cup contender.

Might Bite, who won the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day and finished runner-up to Native River in the Cheltenham showpiece, is available at 8/1.

Further down the early ante-post list, punters can back Arkle Trophy winner Footpad at 12/1. Willie Mullins’ charge landed the Grade 1 race by 14l from Brain Power to follow up on successes in the Arkle Novice Chase and Racing Post Novice Chase at Leopardstown.

Shattered Love can be had at 20/1 for Gordon Elliott, while Monalee, who was runner-up in the RSA, is available at 25/1.
