Mark Hughes odds-on for Southampton job after Pellegrino sacking

Mark Hughes has been installed as the odds-on favourite to replace Mauricio Pellegrino as Southampton manager.

The 54-year-old has been out of work since being sacked by Stoke City in January but now looks set for a return to the dugout at St Mary’s.

Hughes played for the Saints from 1998 to 2000 and is now just 2/5 to return to the club as manager.

His closest challenger appears to be ex-Watford and Hull City boss Marco Silva.

The Portuguese was sacked by the Hornets just under two months ago after reportedly having his head turned by Everton.

He’s been cut from 3/1 to 2/1 to take over on the South Coast.

Further down the list, Slaven Bilic and Slavisa Jokanovic can be backed at 8/1 apiece, with Eddie Howe one of a host of names available at 10/1.

You can back former Everton manager Ronald Koeman at 16/1 to return to his former club.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Southampton will have to act quickly to save their season and the early signs point towards a swift Prem return for Hughes.”
