Dan Skelton discusses his Tuesday Cheltenham Festival runners
In the Champion Hurdle, I have Ch’Tibello. If I hadn’t have run him at Wincanton, I would fancy him so strongly to be second.
Buveur D’Air looks to be head and shoulders above the rest in this.
Truth of the matter is, he got beat at Wincanton because he got beat at Haydock and had a hard race.
He basically was beaten twice by The New One! In my opinion, he was off the bridle a long way out which isn’t like him. I have had him as fresh as possible since and he will hopefully travel well.
He is just missing the top class angle. He has run in one Grade 1 and was third in the Christmas Hurdle last year.
Unfortunately this year we haven’t been able to pull off a Grade 2 win. He looks just below the top end champion hurdlers.
If all the water can run in our ditch, I would like to think he can pick up a good chunk of prize money.
Anyone who thinks they can beat Buveur D’Air though is doing so out of significant hope rather than expectation.
