With spring on the way now is the ideal time to find some form for a promotion push.

And in League One, that’s exactly what Rotherham United are doing.

The Millers sit fifth heading into the weekend’s games, and a play-off spot is looking ever more likely.

It’s a terrific reply from the Yorkshire side after a trying year in the Championship.

Rotherham were relegated last season with just 23 points, a sizeable 28 away from safety.

But crucially they stuck with manager Paul Warne. The former Millers’ hero took charge of the club in November 2016.

And though he couldn’t stop them going down, it’s clear that both the manager and the club have been rewarded for their loyalty and patience.

The club were sensible in the summer. They pocketed £1.6m for Danny Ward while bringing in a number of shrewd free signings including experienced duo David Ball and Darren Potter.

Midfielder Lee Frecklington and centre-half Richard Wood also serve to ensure Rotherham’s spine is full of football league nous.

But the bulk of Miller’s first-team squad are 25 and under and that blend of youth and experience is paying off.

A see-saw start to the campaign saw them lose three of their opening four games. But a run of seven wins from nine quickly eradicated that.

A seven-game winless run through the Autumn was a setback, but it’s been a remarkable turnaround since then.

Over Rotherham’s last 10 games they’ve collected a superb 24 points thanks to seven wins and three draws.

The run has included three away wins and four clean sheets. They’ve taken on fellow promotion hopefuls Blackburn Rovers and Bradford City in that time.

Rotherham won their last three games without conceding, and are perfectly poised for an immediate return to the Championship as they enter the final quarter of the campaign.
