Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn 5/1 second-favourite to be next PM

Jeremy Corbyn - Labour conference

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is now second in the betting to be next Prime Minister, with our trading team offering 5/1 on Jezza to lead the nation.

That follows the opposition leader’s speech in Coventry, where he revealed he will back a permanent Customs Union after Brexit.

The MP for Islington North now sits just behind 4/1 favourite Jacob Rees-Mogg, who has had plenty of support from punters in this market.

And the odds suggest Corbyn is the only Labour name with any realistic chance of occupying 10 Downing Street anytime soon.

The 68-year-old is followed by Conservative pair Michael Gove (8/1) and Boris Johnson (10/1).

Next up at 16/1 apiece are Amber Rudd and Andrea Leadsom, with 20s on offer for either Dominic Raab or Jeremy Hunt to succeed Theresa May as PM.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Corbyn’s speech has been met with mixed reviews, which leaves his odds untouched of becoming next PM. Should it have been met with wide applause he would be the favourite now.”
