ITV Racing Tips: Politologue shock and Misterton magic at Newbury

The Game Spirit Chase at Newbury is the pick of a high-quality seven-race card on ITV this Saturday.

Politologue will clash with Altior in the Grade 2 affair as the latter looks to return to action with a win following a 288-day absence.

Elsewhere, Native River looks set to go off as favourite for the Denman Chase, while we’ve lined up a tasty long-odds punt for the big handicap hurdle to round out the day.

Without further adieu, here are Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips

NAP – North Hill Harvey – 2:40 Warwick

The Kingmaker Novices’ Chase looks set to be a straight fight between Saint Calvados and North Hill Harvey.

While the former has impressed in lower class company, it’s the latter that is taken to land the spoils in comfortable fashion.

Dan Skelton’s raider has turned over both River Wylde and Sceau Royal already this season over 2m. Those are two top quality scalps, with his victory over River Wylde coming at Grade 2 level.

On that basis, and with the ground in his favour, the seven-year-old is taken to put in another classy jumping performance to land the £22,780 first prize on offer here.

NB – Politilogue – 3:00 Newbury

You can’t argue with Altior’s quality or record. But you can doubt his ability to make a winning return over fences after almost a year away.

And that makes Politologue the one to go with in the Game Spirit Chase.

Paul Nicholls’ exciting seven-year-old has already hoovered up a hat-trick of black-type honours this season, including the Tingle Creek Chase and Desert Orchid Chase.

He’s in incredible form, will love the slight cut in the ground and can take advantage of Altior’s long layoff to spring a minor shock for a trainer who’s been firing in winners on a regular basis over the last fortnight.

Lively Longshot – Misterton – 3:35 Newbury

With three of the last four winners of this race returning a price of 15/1 or greater, it could pay to look further down the field for this 24-runner handicap.

After long deliberation, we think that Misterton has what it takes to pull off a victory for Harry Fry.

The selection has performed well in big fields before and finished a narrow runner-up to Elgin in the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle last time out.

He’ll go fresh in this one and should extend his 100% record of frame finishes. The seven-year-old makes plenty of appeal on each-way terms at the very least.

ITV Racing Tips:

1:50 Newbury – Barters Hill

2:05 Warwick – Jester Jet

2:25 Newbury – Native River

2:40 Warwick – North Hill Harvey (NAP)

3:00 Newbury – Politologue (NB)

3:15 Warwick – Kylemore Lough

3:35 Newbury – Misterton (Lively Longshot, EW)
