Genesis Open pitches Woods against McIlroy, Spieth and Johnson

Tiger Woods is coming up for 10 years since his most recent Major win. The 14-time champion is making a comeback in 2018, but what can we expect from it?
The American has spent much of the last three years recovering from back surgery, and hasn’t even played in a Major since 2015.
A planned comeback last season proved short-lived, so it remains to be seen what he can achieve this time around.
So far it’s been steady going. Woods made his season bow at the Hero World Challenge in December, and finished a competitive ninth.
Almost two months later, a solid four days at the Farmers Insurance Open yielded a share of 23rd.
It wasn’t spectacular, but a quartet of 72s or better was a reasonable return.
Woods saw the positives in the result, in what was only his second proper event since August 2015. Crucially, the 42-year-old said he felt no pain during the weekend in Torrey Pines.
He’s saying all the right things. But it’s still very much early days.
Next up on Tiger’s comeback schedule is the Genesis Open, held at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.
The course holds fond memories for the American. It was there that he made his PGA Tour debut in 1992 aged only 16.
Now an elder statesman of the game, Woods will go up against the big guns who have all fought for a share of his mantle in recent years.
Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson and the rejuvenated Rory McIlroy are all expected to feature strongly.
None of that trio played in the Farmers Insurance, so the Genesis Open will offer the first true indicator of where Woods is at in this latest comeback.
Can he still mix it with the best? Can he do it over a whole weekend? Can he still win the big events?
These are just some of the many questions still surrounding Tiger Woods as he tries to return to his glory days.
