Champions League tips: Chelsea must take the game to Barcelona

Eden Hazard

There’s a thrilling tie in store tonight as Chelsea welcome Lionel Messi and Barcelona to Stamford Bridge.

A quick look at the odds for this evening’s Champions League clash highlights Chelsea’s task.

Antonio Conte’s men are 12/5 to claim the first leg. It’s the same price about the draw while Barca are favourites at 21/20.

This fixture has produced many a classic over the years, and tonight should be no different.

Of the sides’ 12 previous Champions League meetings, both teams have scored nine times. It’s 7/10 to happen again.

Chelsea will need Eden Hazard to be at his best this evening. The Belgian has scored 15 times this season and should be raring to go having been rested for the 4-0 FA Cup win over Hull City on Friday.

Hazard is 6/1 to score first and 21/10 anytime.

Surprisingly, Messi has never scored versus Chelsea, despite facing them eight times. However, the Argentine has been sensational this season, scoring 27 times while supplying 15 assists.

The 30-year-old is 10/3 joint-favourite to score first, and 23/20 to net anytime.

Luis Suarez failed to score in the group stages, but the Uruguayan heads to Stamford Bridge with 17 goals in his last 18 appearances.

The former Liverpool striker shares top billing alongside Messi at 10/3 to break the deadlock.

Chelsea know they need to score at least once tonight and take something to the Camp Nou.

As for Barca, an away goal is key. We think the two could cancel each other out, and the 11/2 about a 1-1 correct score looks good.
