All eyes on Woods as he takes on McIlroy and Johnson at Genesis Open

There will be more attention than usual on this weekend’s Genesis Open, as Tiger Woods bids to continue his return to the top.

This will only be Woods’ third full event since August 2015, and the Riviera Country Club course is the scene of his PGA Tour debut way back in 1992.

So far the 40-year-old has finished T9 and T23 in his two events this season. His short game remains strong, but his long game has been wobbly at times.

This time around he’s up against all the big names, including Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth.

But Woods remains the biggest name in Golf, and will be the focus of all the attention this weekend.

Everyone will be desperate to see what sort of form he can conjure.

Mix it at the sharp end, and his odds for the Majors will tumble overnight.

But should he fail to make the cut, then doubts will again be raised over whether he’ll ever recapture his full ability.

Johnson goes into the event as favourite, and his recent form backs up our traders’ rationale.

DJ has posted two second places and a win from his four PGA events this season.

As for Rory, he was building up momentum nicely with second in the Dubai Desert Classic and a third in the HSBC Championship.

But he failed to make the final round in the AT & T at Torrey Pines last time out.

Spieth hasn’t quite got going yet in 2018, failing to break into the top nine in any of his four events, while missing the cut at the Phoenix Open.
