Christian Doidge and Cardiff City appear to be a match made in heaven – and not just because they’re both Welsh.

The 25-year-old frontman has lit up League Two with Forest Green Rovers so far this season.

To score 17 goals in 32 appearances for a newly promoted side is no mean feat.

But to do it for a team who are rock bottom of the Football League is even more impressive.

So far in this campaign, Doidge’s strikes account for just over 48% of FGR’s goal tally for the entire season in all competitions.

With that kind of record, we have no doubt that the ex-Dagenham & Redbridge man can make the step up to the Championship.

For a start, the Welshman has a tireless work ethic that fits perfectly with what Neil Warnock demands of a player.

He has a reputation for chasing down every ball and not giving up on lost causes.

With Doidge in pursuit, defenders are unable to rest on their laurels. He forces mistakes and usually capitalises.

Under Warnock’s more direct style, the Newport-born ace has all of the qualities to thrive.

And standing at 6ft 2ins, Doidge is more than capable of winning his fair share of headers, too.

That bodes well for a side that are good on the break and have plenty of talent in the attacking midfield area.

With players like Junior Hoilett and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing running off the target off man, his capture would provide City with another significant string to their already talent-packed bow.

Forest Green are rumoured to want £1m for their star man.

If Warnock decides to pay-up for the multi-talented forward, it could prove to be the signing which reignites their faltering promotion push.
