Rumour Reel Round-Up: January 2nd

Published:

The January transfer window can transform the course of a club’s season.

The right signing can help a side to soar up the table. But losing a key player could have the opposite effect.

The rumours are already flying about moves that could take place this month. And we’ve picked out a selection of the tastiest transfer talk right here:

Theo Walcott

Arsenal’s Theo Walcott has only seen 47 minutes of Premier League action this season.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if his 12-year spell in North London came to an end in the coming weeks.

Southampton are 2/5 favourites to re-sign the forward. They’re now flush with cash from selling Virgil van Dijk.

West Ham United and Everton are also in the race but they’re outsiders at 6/1 and 9/1 respectively.

Faouzi Ghoulam

Manchester United could see Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam as the solution to their problems at left-back.

Napoli are closing in on a deal for Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo, which would pave the way for Ghoulam to leave.

The Algeria international has a £53m release clause in his contract. The attacking full-back has also been linked with Chelsea and Liverpool.

Joe Allen

Stoke City are just two points above the relegation zone after a run of five defeats from seven games. And they believe Joe Allen will be key to turning their season around.

West Ham United are reportedly willing to pay up to £15m for the central midfielder this month. But they’ve been told that he’s not for sale.

Would a bigger offer tempt the Potters into doing business? It remains to be seen.

Arturo Vidal

Reports in Germany suggest that Bayern Munich have agreed a deal to sign Schalke’s Leon Goretzka on a free transfer this summer.

If that deal goes through, it could open the door for Arturo Vidal’s exit. There’d be plenty of interest in the powerful midfielder around Europe. But Chelsea may have an advantage.

Antonio Conte worked with the Chilean to great effect when they were together at Juventus.
